An Irish tourist has pleased guilty to defacing a memorial at Auschwitz.
The 38-year-old, who’s name was not released, was detained by security guards at the site located in Poland last Sunday, a local prosecutor told Irish national broadcaster RTÉ.
Believed to have scratched his name on a wall at the former Nazi concentration camp, he was charged in the nearby town of Oświęcim, for breaching Article 335 of the Polish Penal Code.
The accused admitted to desecrating the memorial and agreed to a punishment, which will be made public after a court hearing. He will not have to return for the hearing, with the court process expected to take two months.
