Mark Gardner of THE COMMUNITY SECURITY TRUST (CST) said: “CST and our entire Jewish community owes a huge debt of gratitude to Jewish News and its staff for their dedication and communal spirit. It has done so much more for our community, organisations and our common interests and advocacy than report the news.“
WORLD JEWISH RELIEF’s CEO Paul Anticoni, said it was “immensely grateful to Jewish News for championing our work over so many years; its efforts to highlight the challenges vulnerable Jewish communities face and its coverage of our emergency responses has resulted in tremendous support from the community and undoubtedly played a role in saving lives”.
JEWISH CARE said it has “loved working with Jewish News on so many memorable events and features over the years. From our annual Bake Day to the wonderful Jews Got Talent, and many memories in between, Jewish News has been a very valued and vital partner. We are grateful for the support it has shown us in what can only be described as a true communal spirit”.
Dr Beverley Jacobson, chief executive of NORWOOD paid tribute, saying: “From collaborating on the Big Family Show & Expo last summer, to running photographs of our Purim party last month, we have been able to rely on Jewish News to present lively coverage of the work Norwood does in the community.”
The UNION OF JEWISH STUDENTS said: “It’s been a pleasure to work with everyone there and, most recently, Beverley, Jack and Stephen, who have always worked tirelessly to help spread important news on Jewish students. It’s terribly sad to see what’s happening to such an integral part of the Jewish community.”
A UNITED SYNAGOGUE spokesperson said: “One of the most powerful newspaper front pages ever was the image from the burial of the six kedoshim – Holocaust victims – at Bushey New Cemetery last year. The dignified coverage you gave to one of the most extraordinary funerals conducted by the United Synagogue Burial Society will stay with us forever. Thank you Jewish News for everything you have achieved.”
Rabbi Charley Baginsky, LIBERAL JUDAISM’s director of strategy and partnerships said the movement “was devastated at news of the loss of Jewish News and we hope a way is found to continue such a vital part of our British Jewish community. The paper has kept us informed and entertained and it’s hard to imagine life without it”.
Janice Shapiro of the S&P SEPHARDI COMMUNITY said: “A special thanks to Marc Jacobs and his team, which always ensures we get fantastic value and goes the extra mile to ensure we get maximum exposure. You will be missed.”
MAYOR OF LONDON SADIQ KHAN, said: “Jewish News has been a true voice of the Jewish community. Your outstanding journalists have informed and celebrated the community and held this country’s leaders to account. You’ve performed a vital role and I’m grateful you’ve let me speak to your readers through your pages. Whether it’s at our Chanukah in the Square celebrations, Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony, interfaith iftar or in Poland earlier this year to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, I’m so proud to have been able to share these moments with your readers.”
HOLOCAUST EDUCATIONAL TRUST’s CEO Karen Pollock said the paper had been “a stalwart of Jewish communal life for decades. Its generosity of spirit, dedication to journalism and drive to innovate has inspired us all. I will never forget the issue compiled by Holocaust survivors in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. At the home of Gena Turgel, we gathered with Ben Helfgott, Harry Bibring and Hannah Lewis to create a special commemorative edition.”
MAGEN DAVID ADOM UK’S chief executive, Daniel Burger said: “I’ve got so many great memories from JN, but the one that stands out the most has to be Norman Rosenbaum winning the award at the Jewish News’ Night of Heroes ceremony for his crowd fundraising of 12 MDA ambulances. Norman and the JN embodies all that is great about our community, and seeing Norman hand over his award to the next generation made me so proud.”

David Gold, ROYAL MAIL’s director of public affairs and policy, said: “Whether it was a request for Royal Mail to issue a special stamp to celebrate the life of Sir Nicholas Winton, or ways to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi camps, Jewish News – and Justin Cohen in particular – led passionate, vigorous campaigns. At the heart of its success was a heartfelt desire to do right.”
JAMI‘s Nicola Noah said: “I will miss my daily calls. I will miss picking up the paper by the school gate. I will miss flicking through it for my latest advert. I will miss catching up on the latest Jewish news – but most of all, I will miss the way it brings the community together.”
WORK AVENUE said: “When Work Avenue temporarily housed Jewish News at WE Hub, our shared workspace, when it was between offices, it was great getting to know the team and to build on our relationship over the past few years. We continue to miss the team and the vibrancy and will miss our weekly delivery of Jewish News.”
RUSSELL BAHAR, Spring Ad Consultancy and former Jewish News sales manager said: “Having worked at Jewish News for 15 years I saw first-hand how much work, time and effort was given to produce a quality paper every week, and not to forget the incredible events we put on for the community. Everyone there has passion and dedication.”
RESOURCE said: “In 2014, we approached our JN account manager, who offered to come and brainstorm ideas. From this meeting, our annual How to Get a Job workshops, in partnership with JW3, were born. These workshops have helped hundreds of people find the confidence and skills they needed to get back into the workplace.”
BRITISH EMUNAH said: “Thank you for all your support and the publicity you gave us over the years. We are so sorry the paper will no longer be there. We wish every success to all your employees who looked after us so professionally.”
Martin Segal, UK executive director of ISRAEL GUIDE DOG CENTRE, said: “I will miss our meetings and discussions about dogs and helping our charity help blind people in Israel. This is a very sad moment for British Jewry.”
CAMP SIMCHA UK CEO Neville Goldschneider said: “So much of what Jewish News has always done is at the heart of the community – the Night of Heroes awards being an amazing example of that. We saw several of our own Camp Simcha heroes honoured that night, at what was an immensely heart-warming and unforgettable occasion.”
Ben Robbins of BESPOKE KOSHER TRAVEL said: “We have been working closely with Marc and the team for many years and are really grateful for the support they gave us as our business grew. We will miss the team as much as we will miss the paper each week.”

Pioneering
In the first collaboration between media outlets from different faiths, Jewish News worked with British Muslim TV and Church Times to produce a list of young activists leading the way on interfaith understanding.
Campaigning
Royal Mail issued a stamp honouring Holocaust hero Sir Nicholas Winton after a Jewish News campaign attracted more than 100,000 backers. Jewish Newsalso produces special editions of the paper highlighting pressing issues including mental health and Holocaust remembrance.
