Tech That! Tado Wireless Smart Thermostat – Starter Kit V3 – ✡ ✡ ✡ ✡ ✡
Despite a tricky installation, tech editor Daniel Elias gives a big thumbs up to this voice-controlled thermostat, which is perfect for timing the heating during Shabbat
Plus points:
- Easy set up process
- Works with the Google Assistant, Siri or Alexa for voice commands
- The feature rich app, which is simple to use, provides analysis on indoor air comfort, such as humidity, as well as pollen forecasts and air quality index ratings
- Smart schedule allows you to turn the heating to your desired temperature at pre-set time blocks, which is perfect for Shabbat!
- The auto assist feature turns off the heating whenever you are out or it detects a window open, helping to reduce energy bills
- Additional smart radiator thermostats can let you control your home room by room
- Care & Protect feature monitors and alerts you to any boiler system faults
Nil points:
- Removing my old boiler thermostat and hooking up the Tado wireless receiver was daunting, but after a few YouTube tutorials and a screwdriver it was up and working!
- People with very limited DIY or technical skills may need to hire an electrician for installation
- Extra features such as auto assist cost an additional £2.99/month or £24.99/year

I really enjoyed using Tado over the past few months. The thermostat may seem very basic on the surface, but it’s ease of use and feature-packed app makes it one of the best ways to heat your home during colder months.
