#NotJewish hashtag trends after left-wing account blocks Jewish Twitter users

The hashtag #NotJewish was trending on Monday in protest at an account that blocks Jews.

Hundreds of people on the social media platform, most of them #NotJewish, took aim at a group called ‘Labour Left Voice’ for targeting Jewish users.

The trend was sparked when the Jewish Labour Movement’s Rebecca Filer tweeted a screenshot showing she had been blocked by LLV.

JLM colleague Jack Mayorcas responded by quoting her message, adding: “If you are Jewish and have also been blocked by @lableftvoice despite never interacting with them, please add to the thread”.

More than 1,800 replies were sent to Jack, with many non-Jewish accounts saying they had been blocked too, despite never having interacted with LLV.

Blocked accounts also include World Jewish Relief and Barnet Synagogue, rabbis Shmuli Brown and Moshe Freedman and communal figure including Dave Rich of the CST and Danny Stone of the Antisemitism Policy Trust.

Actress Tracy Ann-Oberman took to Twitter to say: “Thank you to all those tweeting #NotJewish in response to being on the Corbyn Hate Site @LLV block list. Your solidarity and tweets are hilarious and goodly. X”

Comedian David Baddiel added: “It’s good to see that “Not Jewish” turns out to be non-Jews voicing solidarity with Jews against anti-Semitism. Although if you’re *really* Jewish like me, it also makes you feel a bit left out.”

Celebrity chef Jay Rayner said: “Curious. I have no recollection of ever interacting with @LabLeftVoice  , but they’ve blocked me anyway. Clearly they don’t want one of those pesky Jews looking at their tweets.”

@LabLeftVoice claimed they were trending because “thanks to Jay Rayner’s horrific gaffe where he took umbrage to being blocked by a Pro Corbyn Lefty Jew account because we are under attack daily from political persecution by Anti Corbyn accounts.. conspiracy theory ensued..”
