There’s no shortage of oys in the world but Jewish News takes every opportunity to celebrate the joys too, through projects like Night of Heroes, 40 Under 40 and other compelling countdowns that make the community kvell with pride.

Pioneering

In the first collaboration between media outlets from different faiths, Jewish News worked with British Muslim TV and Church Times to produce a list of young activists leading the way on interfaith understanding.

Campaigning

Royal Mail issued a stamp honouring Holocaust hero Sir Nicholas Winton after a Jewish News campaign attracted more than 100,000 backers. Jewish Newsalso produces special editions of the paper highlighting pressing issues including mental health and Holocaust remembrance.

Hasmonean: ‘Our pupils excelled in challenging year’

Hasmonean Girls and Boys’ Schools have said they are “so proud” of their students’ achievements this GCSE results day.

At Hasmonean Boys’, 67% of all GCSE grades were 9-7 % and 95% of grades were in the 9-4 category.

Headteacher Debbie Lebrett said: “We are especially delighted by the progress students have made both academically and personally during their time at Hasmonean.”

At Hasmonean Girls, 78% of all GCSE grades were 9-7 and 98% of grades were in the 9-4 category.

55% of students gained 8 or more 9-8 grades. Mr Andrew McClusky, CEO of the Hasmonean Multi Academy Trust said: “We are so proud of our students’ achievements. Our students continued to learn throughout the pandemic and these results are a testament to the work that they have done. 

“I am grateful to the teachers who prepared them so well, and to all of our staff who support our students in countless ways.”

“Our students excelled during a challenging and unprecedented year,” said Hasmonean girls’ headteacher, Kate Brice.
