Duke of Cambridge joins football session with Jewish and Arab kids
The Duke of Cambridge attended a session at the Equaliser football programme, Jaffa-Tel Aviv, Israel.
The Football Association president met with young people who are engaged in football-based youth programmes operated by The Equaliser, a social sport educational framework.
Prince William took part in a penalty shoot-out with young Jews and Arabs involved in the UJIA-backed programme run by the Peres Centre for Peace, and was joined by Israeli footballer Tomer Hemed, who plays for Premierleague side Brighton and Hove Albion.

UK Holocaust educators welcome Duke’s Yad Vashem visit
Following the Duke of Cambridge’s landmark visit to the Jewish state this week, Shoah education groups have welcomed his historic trip to Israel’s Holocaust memorial museum, Yad Vashem.
Karen Pollock, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) said last year they “facilitated a visit by His Royal Highness to the former Nazi concentration camp, Stutthof. Bearing witness then – as with this visit to Yad Vashem in Israel today – sends a powerful message to the world: we must never forget.
“Yad Vashem is internationally recognised as a leader in Holocaust remembrance and education and we’re so grateful to His Royal Highness for making this historic visit.
She added: “His Royal Highness is a great ambassador for our cause. Holocaust survivors and the community will welcome the spotlight that he has brought to the issue of remembrance and educating, yet again, so that we never forget.”

His great grandmother Princess Alice, is recognised by Yad Vashem as Righteous among the Nations for hiding Jews during the Shoah. Prince William, who is President of the Football Association, watches on at the UJIA, British Embassy in Israel, Equaliser programme, which brings Jewish and Arab kids together.
The Duke of Cambridge was joined by footballer Tomer Hemed, who plays for Premierleague side Brighton and Hove Albion, as they attend a session at the Equaliser football programme run by UJIA and UK in Israel that brings Jewish and Arab kids together. It’s located in, Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Israel .

Prince William meets with President Reuven Rivlin
Israel’s President Reuven Rivlin has called on the Duke of Cambridge to take with him “a message of peace” when he meets Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas later this week.

Speaking at his official residence during a meeting with William and his small delegation Mr Rivlin said: “I know you are going to meet President Abbas.

“I would like you to send him a message of peace and tell him it is about time, it is about time that we have to find together the way to build confidence.
“Build confidence as a first step to bring to understanding that we have to bring to an end the tragedy between us that goes along for more than 120 years.”

Chief Rabbi Mirvis: It was ‘truly a privilege’ to join Duke at Yad Vashem
Chief Rabbi Mirvis speaks of his honour at accompanying Prince William at Israel’s national Holocaust memorial museum during his historic visit to the Jewish state.
He said: “Today’s visit to Yad Vashem was profoundly moving and deeply inspiring. The Duke of Cambridge is a figurehead for a younger generation and he has previously mentioned to me that he feels a particular responsibility to ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are learned. As the generation of survivors sadly dwindles, there can be no more powerful indication of our commitment to protecting their legacy than the presence of the future Monarch at Yad Vashem.”
Chief Rabbi Mirvis gifted the duke a a the ‘kippah’ (skull cap) which is inscribed as follows:
“Let us go up to the House of the God of Jacob. For the Torah shall come forth from Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” (Isaiah 2:3)

Prince William tours Yad Vashem, meets survivors
The Duke of Cambridge learnt about the individual stories of Holocaust victims through their possessions, other artefacts and moving testimonies as he paid his respects to the millions killed by the Nazi regime.
William was taken on a guided tour of Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre in Jerusalem, which recounts the history of the Holocaust, the extermination of six million Jewish people during the Second World War.
The museum attempts to tells the story of the Holocaust through individual stories and ultimately the story of a single person.

In the Hall of Names, described by the museum as a virtual cemetery for those whose resting place is unknown, the names and personal details of millions of victims have been recorded on Pages of Testimony, symbolic tombstones.
There is also an exhibition about the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp with artefacts collected to describe in detail how people were systematically murdered by the Nazis.
The Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis joined William for his visit and was later due to play part in a simple but moving ceremony in the museum’s Hall of Remembrance where the duke will lay a wreath.

Here is the text of Prince William’s message in Yad Vashem’s Book of Remembrance:
It has been a profoundly moving experience to visit Yad Vashem today. It is almost impossible to comprehend this appalling event in history. Every name, photograph and memory recorded here is a tragic reminder of the unimaginable human cost of the Holocaust and the immense loss suffered by the Jewish people.
The story of the Holocaust is one of darkness and despair, questioning humanity itself. But the actions of those few who took great risks to help others are a reminder of the human capacity for love and hope. I am honoured that my own great grandmother is one of these righteous among the nations.
We must never forget the Holocaust – the murder of 6 millions men, women and children, simply because they were Jewish. We all have a responsibility to remember and to teach future generations about the horrors of the past so that they can never reoccur.
May the millions of Jewish people remembered by Yad Vashem never be forgotten

Prince William arrives at Yad Vashem
The Duke of Cambridge will commemorate the millions of Jews who died during the Second World War when he lays a wreath at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre.
William, who is making a five-day visit to the Middle East, will receive a short tour of the museum before meeting with two Holocaust survivors of the Kindertransport who will share their personal experiences with him.
The duke will be joined by Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis during his visit, when he will leave his floral tribute in Yad Vashem’s Hall of Remembrance.
The duke will then travel to the residence of Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu where he will be welcomed toIsrael by the politician and his wife before meeting the country’s President Reuven Rivlin at his residence.

Later William will visit the city of Jaffa where he will meet young people involved in the work of two organisations focused on co-existence through football between the youngsters of different religious and ethnic communities – the Equaliser and the Peres Centre for Peace.
He will attend a football event hosted by the two charities and will have a chance to spend time with children and teenagers involved in several of their projects, including one focused on empowering young girls.
In the evening the duke will give a speech at a reception at the residence of Britain’s Ambassador to Israel David Quarrey before returning to Jerusalem.
