A group of over 70 people have concluded their meditation retreat in Morocco with a royal banquet attended by two of King Mohammed VI’s ministers in Marrakech.

Organisers presented the trip as an opportunity to spend a week away from work and technology in the surroundings of Morocco’s Atlas Mountains.

The trip was organised by Jewish Learning Exchange educators rabbi Dov Cowan, Rivka Lerner and rabbi Doniel Katz, and Claire Goodman, who heads the group’s women division.

It featured a visit to Lazama Synagogue situated in Marrakech’s Jewish quarter and built in 1492 by Jewish refugees from the Spanish inquisition.

Other activities included meditation sessions, a Shabbat service, an introduction to chassidic philosophy and a sunset hike.

Additional security was provided by grenadier guards appointed by King Mohammed VI for the entirety of the trip.
