Harry Styles joins Solly’s tributes as restaurant confirms closure
Much-loved shawarma restaurant Solly’s has confirmed its plans to close today, amid a high profile Twitter campaign endorsed by Harry Styles.
Fans of the restaurant took to Twitter yesterday to express their upset at the news, rallying support with the hashtag #Savesollys.
One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles joined the growing list of tributes, his spokesman revealing he’s “mortified” at the news. “London’s culinary scene has lost huge part of its neshama,” he said on behalf of the singer.
Rumours abounded that the restaurant would be reopening in a new location after the summer, but a staff member contacted by Jewish News could not confirm any plans for a new branch.
“Today is the last day,” he said. “We’re closing at 4pm. It’s very sad.”
Restaurant staff remained tight-lipped about the reasons behind the closure. Solly’s tweeted, “Linda & the Solly’s team would like to thank you for your loyalty over the years. It was a pleasure! #SaveSollys”
