Erlich crashes out of doubles tournament

ERLICH2Israel’s last player at Wimbledon Jonathan Erlich was beaten in a five-set thriller in the men’s doubles on Thursday afternoon.

Pairing up with Italian Daniele Bracciali, the pair took on the fourth seeds, Frenchmen Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin and started slowly, finding themselves 3-0 down in the first set. It was therefore no surprise when the French duo went on to wrap up the first set 6-3.

The second set was though a much closer affair, and going all the way to a tiebreak, Erlich and Bracciali levelled the match up, winning it 7-1.

The Israeli-Italian duo then broke the French pair  in the first game of the third set, before holding their serve to go 2-0 up. They broke serve again to go 3-0 up, and while both teams then exchanged service matches, Erlich & Bracciali served out to take the third set 6-2.

The fourth set saw the Frenchmen take an early advantage, as they found themselves 3-1 up, and duly ran out 6-3 winners to set up a final and deciding set.

Going to serve early on, The French then broke serve to give them the advantage, and held on to run out 6-4 winners.
