Chris Williamson has retweeted a video shared from the account of an antisemitic activist who is a Holocaust revisionist and claimed the Talmud promotes paedophilia.

The Derby North MP’s retweet was first reported by the anonymous anti-fascist account Anti-Nazis United in a detailed blog post.

In the video retweeted by Williamson on Sunday, the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro can be seen telling reporters: “The infected hand of Donald Trump is hurting Venezuela.

“We had a large shipment of medicine to last the country for a year and a large batch of raw materials for food.

“The (bank) account was frozen. The contracts were cancelled and the money is seized.

“They suffocate us, steal our money and then say ‘hold on to this crumb’ and put a show for the world.”

The video was first shared on Sunday from the account of someone named Sonia Mota, who tweets under the handle @SoniaKatiMota.

Mota has shared multiple antisemitic conspiracy theories online, claiming that “Jews are eight times over-represented in Parliament” and that the “Talmud promotes pedophilia[sic]”.

She has espoused revisionist views online on the genocide of Jews in the Shoah, tweeting for instance last year that records suggested six million Jews died before the Holocaust.

She has said that “Zionists love to milk the holocaust and deny the Nakba” and that “The #Holocaust is used like a weapon of mass destruction by Jewish Zionists”.

Chris Williamson and the Labour Party were approached for comment but did not reply by the time of publication.

In February, Jeremy Corbyn denied accusations of antisemitism levelled against Chris Williamson, saying “he’s a very strong anti-racist campaigner”.

When speaking to Jewish News last year, asked about contemporary antisemitism, he said: “What do you mean by contemporary anti-Semitism? Anti-Semitism is anti-Semitism. I don’t understand what you mean by a contemporary form of it.

Mark Gardner, director of communications at the Community Security Trust, said: “It is scandalous that an MP should be retweeting anything from this disgusting antisemitic source.

“Will Jews even get a supposed excuse from Chris Williamson and Labour: or do we not even merit that anymore?”

Help perform the greatest mitzvah: save a life

While life in Israel has returned to normal and hopes are high that Britain is set for a summer without restrictions thanks to vaccines, for billions around the world there is no such imminent light at the end of the tunnel. In the majority of countries around the globe, particularly the poorest, the vaccine rollout has barely kicked off.

That's why Jewish News, the leading source of news and opinion for the entire UK community, is throwing its full weight behind UNICEF’s VaccinAid campaign by using this platform usually reserved for encouraging donations towards our own journalism to instead urge our readers around the globe to perform the greatest mitzvah: saving a life.

We have never before done this for any charity fundraiser but it's hard to recall a campaign that affects so many people, and indeed an entire planet aching for a return to normality. Just like the Chief Rabbi and Rachel Riley, we hope to boost the mission to deliver two billion vaccines, 165 million treatments and 900 million test kits around the world by the end of this year.

Please donate as much as you can, in the spirit of the Talmudic sages: “to save one life is to save the world entire”
