Austria and Denmark have joined the UK in pledging to oppose all four UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolutions against Israel.
The resolutions, to be debated in Geneva on Friday, are part of the only country-specific permanent item on the UNHRC agenda.
The item would have the UNHRC debate Israeli human rights abuses against Palestinians during each of its sessions
The announcement comes after the British government confirmed yesterday it would honour its pledge to oppose all four resolutions currently proposed under Item 7.
World Jewish Congress CEO and executive vice president Robert Singer said: “The resolutions under item 7 fail to expose the accountability of the Palestinian leadership for the deterioration of human rights in the territories under their control, ignore the terrorism and oppression of Hamas towards Gaza civilians and instead scapegoat Israel applying a severe and absurd double standard.”
This comes after United Nations investigators said last month that Israeli forces may have committed war crimes in their response to weekly protests in Gaza last year.
