A 14-year old from Hackney was arrested, after throwing fireworks at Jewish passers-bye, writes Jack Mendel.

The youth was detained by volunteer neighbourhood watch group Shomrim who called the police.

Shomrim posted on Twitter they detained him “after he chucked fireworks at Jewish pedestrians”, in the neighbourhood which has a significant strictly-orthodox Jewish population

A spokesperson from the police said: they were called at 8am on Sunday, 31 January to Dunsmure Road “to reports of youths throwing fireworks at members of the Jewish community.”

They said: “A 14-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated common assault and possession of a firework in the street. He was taken to a north London police station and subsequently released on police bail to a date in early March.

“No one was injured during the incident.”
