Young Lions claim league & cup double
Maccabi London Lions secured a league and cup double on Sunday as they won a nail-biting penalty shoot-out to clinch the Watford Friendly League Under 11 Challenge Cup.
Up against Harvesters North, the game was level at 1-1 after extra time, though the Lions emerged triumphant, winning 5-3 on penalties.
Manager Nigel Burns, who is Director of Youth Football at the club, and his assistant Joel Phillips, were both ecstatic after adding this latest piece of silverware to an extremely impressive list, having not only won the League three seasons in a row, but also now a hat-trick of Challenge Cup wins having won the double at U9s and the treble at U10s. They said: “We are all so proud and delighted for the whole squad on this latest achievement – they truly are a special bunch of boys with a very special talent.”
