Thousands of African migrants are marching in Israel’s financial center, Tel Aviv, demanding work rights and better treatment from the Israeli government.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said about 10,000 migrants marched through Tel Aviv on Sunday. Protesters said they are on a three-day strike to protest a crackdown on migrants, and they called on the government to allow them to work legally and for other rights.

Tens of thousands of Africans, mostly Sudanese and Eritreans, have trekked through neighbouring countries to reach Israel in recent years – some fleeing oppression, while others seek work.
