Patrols have been stepped up in Hackney, following a spate of synagogue burglaries in which charity boxes were emptied and lots of damage was caused.

Two shuls on Clapton Common in Hackney were burgled overnight (4 August) according to Shomrim, during which “charity boxes were emptied” and damage was caused after forced entry by the burglars.

In response, the volunteer group increased patrols around local synagogues, tweeting that they had checked over 30 shuls to ensure they were safe.

Shomrim told Jewish News, they “are working closely with the Metropolitan Police in Hackney to bring the offender(s) to justice and to prevent further burglaries.”
