Mitzvah Day has won the ‘Best Interfaith Partnership’ award at Sufra north west London’s annual awards ceremony.
Daniela Pears, Mitzvah Day’s Interfaith Chair, accepted the award from the Mayor of Brent on 10 June.
The award recognises a long-term partnership between the Muslim-run food bank and Mitzvah Day’s social action work, and Daniela was delighted to receive the award on behalf of Mitzvah Day, calling it “a ‘no-brainer’ to promote Sufra as a fantastic food bank to bring different faith communities together in support.”
Sufra, a food bank serving disadvantaged families of all faiths in the London Borough of Brent, has received Mitzvah Day support for several years. Many synagogues across north-west London have run food collections outside supermarkets on Mitzvah Day in previous years and donated the food to Sufra.
Mitzvah Day runs an international day of social action in November bringing together 37,000 volunteers – but also encouraging volunteer led social action year round, emphasising partnerships between faith communities.
