The team at Jewish Blind and Disabled

A Jewish charity helping those with physical disabilities and visual impairments has become the first housing provider in the UK to receive dementia awareness accreditation.

Staff at Jewish Blind & Disabled applied for the award, but first had to pass several knowledge-based tests about dementia, which can lead to loss of memory, mood changes and problems with communication and reasoning.

JBD House Manager Derek Fisher was instrumental in this success, which has led to a new House Manager Induction programme.

About three quarters of a million people in the UK live with dementia, but experts say that figure is likely to rise to one million by 2025.
