Israel on alert amid ‘unusual Iranian movement’ in Syria
IDF increases readiness on northern border with bomb shelters being opened and troops called up
Israel’s military increased its readiness on the northern border in the Golan Heights in response to what it is calling “unusual movements of Iranian forces in Syria,” according to various reports.
Bomb shelters were being opened in the north.
“Following the identification of irregular activity of Iranian forces in Syria, the IDF has decided to change the civilian protection instructions in the Golan Heights and instructs local authorities to unlock and ready shelters in the area,” the Israel Defence Forces said in an alert Tuesday.
The alert was not more specific, but came as President Donald Trump prepared to announce whether he was pulling the United States out of the nuclear agreement with Iran.
The U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv also issued an alert, citing “recent tensions in the region,” saying U.S. government employees are required to obtain advance approval if they wish to travel to the Golan Heights.
