Trevor and Aimee Shulton are to oversee Team Maccabi GB’s badminton squads for the European Maccabi Games in 2015.
Trevor will fulfill a dual role for Berlin as sports chair and open team manager, while Aimee will act as manager for the junior squad.
Having played badminton since she was 10-years-old, Aimee has gone on to represent Essex County at U13, U15 and U17 age groups. She will be able to draw on her managerial experience from taking her school team to a number of regional Badminton Finals. Her affiliation with Maccabi GB extends to the international stage, where she represented Team Maccabi GB at the 19th Maccabiah Games in Israel in July 2013. Trevor’s involvement with Team Maccabi GB is an inspiring one. He went to Israel last year to support Aimee and was enthused by the work Maccabi GB does with young, British athletes and the standard of competition at the tournament. Having raised two children who compete in Badminton at a high level, Trevor wanted to “give something back” to the Jewish Community and applied to oversee Badminton at the European Maccabi Games 2015. This will be his first international Maccabi tournament.
Speaking about what it feels like to be appointed in the role, and what the aims are for Berlin 2015, Trevor said: “When I saw Aimee compete at the 19th Maccabiah Games I was amazed at the dedication and commitment of all those involved with Maccabi GB in bringing talented, Jewish sportspeople together on such a grand scale. I want to continue this work and I’m extremely proud to be involved in Team Maccabi GB. I look forward to helping all British representatives achieve success on and off the court, making it an enjoyable European Maccabi Games for everyone.”
Aimee Shulton added, “It is a great feeling to have been appointed Junior Team Manager for Berlin. After last summer’s Maccabiah Games I saw what an amazing organisation Maccabi GB is. They allow many Jewish sportsmen and women, like myself, to compete at an international level when otherwise they may not get the chance. So taking a group of young Badminton players to Germany will, hopefully, allow me to give something back to the organisation and the Community as whole. I encourage anyone who feels they can compete to apply immediately.”
The Shultons have begun the recruitment process and they will begin by looking at players who will be attending the Maccabi GB Community Badminton Day at Hendon Leisure Centre this Sunday [26th January].
