Israeli javelin thrower Marharyta Dorozhon had two reasons to celebrate after she not only won the Maccabiah women’s competition – but also qualified for the World Athletics Championships in London.

Having missed out on a place at last summer’s Rio Olympic Games, the Ukrainian-born 29-year-old had to register a throw of more than 60m in 2016 in order to meet the qualifying standards – and did so in Jerusalem with a throw of 63.07.

Dorozhon became an Israeli citizen in 2014 and has a personal best throw of 64.56m, but injury curtailed most of her season in 2016.
